Oh man, one day into this blog and I already don't have time to think of something clever! Well, for now, just ponder the recent 50 year anniversary of the pixel. Has it been that long, already? If you haven't noticed by the signs outside of Urban Outfitters, pixels are HOT right now, as documented by the harbinger of all pop culture: the music video. Consider yourself a hipster if you've already seen Junior Senior's distinctively low-res "Move Your Feet" AND the White Stripes "Fell In Love With A Girl." Everyone loves jaggies!

Oh man, check out this craziness across the street. This is the new Urban Outfitters in Cincinnati. Yes, the very same retail store that sells the "Jesus is My Homeboy" tshirt. I will withhold official commentary for now, but suffice to say, this architectural bodysnatcher would make Vincent Scully shit a brick. It's so ridiculous, that it attracted Metropolis Magazine to publish a short story about it in their fiction issue. Read "Church of the Baggy Pants" and gawk in amazement.

Hello world! For those who are not familiar, I am Nate - design student extraordinaire. I recently transferred to DAAP at U of Cincinnati, and am currently undergoing the intensive summer foundation program in the School of Design. I just finished a year of fine arts at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, and before all of this, I received a BA in Architectural History & Theory from Yale. Skewl is kewl! Anyway, Cincinnati is a huge leap from the urban east coast scene that I'm used to...so I started this blog to keep in touch with all my people in Boston, New York, and beyond. (you too, mom & dad!) Follow the bouncing ball, kids!
[Aronoff Center] Well, for starters, you gotta see this campus. UC is in the home stretch of a decade-long major reconstruction plan, which is intended to render the campus into a veritable design museum featuring buildings by some of the greatest contemporary architects, featuring new buildings by Frank Gehry, Michael Graves, Henry Cobb (of Pei Cobb Freed), and Peter Eisenman - designer of DAAP, where I spend most of my days. Eisenman's building is by far my favorite, which is good considering that I spend upwards of 60 hours a week inside. Check out my photo tour of the interior, and get lost inside its insane angles and pastel palette! Besides the beautiful campus, my classes here are challenging and time consuming, and the people I've met so far are wikkid cool. The Clifton neighborhood has an interesting charm of its own, with its own brand of nightlife and undervalued architecture, and downtown Cincinnati has some selling points, too. More to come as this blog unfolds. Check it out!
